Primarij Mag. Dragica Kosec, MD, Ophthalmology Specialist

Primarij Mag. Dragica Kosec, MD, is an ophthalmology specialist who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, in 1982 and later obtained a Master of Science degree in divergent strabismus (2001). She completed her ophthalmology residency in 1991 at the Eye Clinic in Ljubljana and received the professional title of primarij in 1998. She has dedicated her career to the Eye Clinic Ljubljana, where she works as a specialist ophthalmologist and since 1993 has led and mentored work in the Department of Orthoptics and Strabology. She is also active in teaching and professional work, mentors residents and other health professionals, and lectures for both professional and lay audiences. Her research includes authorship and co-authorship of numerous professional and scientific articles and congress participation. She is a member of the Medical Chamber of Slovenia, the Slovenian Medical Association, the Slovenian Ophthalmological Society, and the European Strabismological Association, and in her work she also uses advanced computer skills in MS Office and health information systems.

Dr Ana Pajtler Rošar, MD, Ophthalmology Specialist, FEBO

Ana Pajtler Rošar passed the European specialist examination in ophthalmology in Paris in 2010 and completed her PhD at the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana in 2022. Until 2023 she performed cataract surgery at the Eye Clinic in Ljubljana and focused on the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases. She focuses in particular on age-related macular degeneration, intraocular inflammation, vascular retinal diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy.

Dr Barbara Podnar, MD, Ophthalmology Specialist, FEBO

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana in 2016, she completed her ophthalmology residency in Izola and Ljubljana. She passed the European specialist examination in 2021 and the Slovenian examination with distinction in 2022. During her residency she focused on glaucoma within her doctoral studies and successfully defended her thesis in 2024 on the significance of glaucoma indicators in the screening programme for diabetic retinopathy.

As an ophthalmology specialist she worked in 2022 at the Eye Department of UKC Maribor, where she treated low vision and strabismus in children, and also worked across many other areas (glaucoma, retinal diseases and diabetic retinopathy, neuro-ophthalmology, urgent eye conditions). Since 2023 she has worked as an independent specialist physician.

Dr Marko Šulak, MD, Ophthalmology Specialist, FEBO

Dr Sulak is one of the leading specialists in ophthalmic surgery in Slovenia. He specializes in cataract surgery, complex intraocular lens procedures, and retinal surgery.

Education and Training

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana in 2004, he completed his residency in Ophthalmology in Novo mesto and Ljubljana. In 2011, he passed the European Board of Ophthalmology exam (FEBO) in Paris with distinction.

From 2014 to 2016, he was employed at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where he completed two sub-specialty fellowships: first in cataract microsurgery, and then in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases.

Between 2016 and 2019, he was employed at Oxford University Hospitals as a Vitreoretinal Fellow, completing a two-year subspecialty training in vitreoretinal surgery.

From 2019 to 2023 (and then part-time until 2025), he was employed at the Eye Hospital of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana as a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon, focusing primarily on complex retinal surgery, paediatric retinal surgery, and complex cataract procedures.

Since 2025, he has been practicing as an independent vitreoretinal and cataract surgeon.

His particular areas of interest include: • minimally invasive cataract surgery • complex intraocular lens procedures • complex retinal surgery • paediatric vitreoretinal surgery

He is highly skilled in minimally invasive lens and cataract surgery. Due to his extensive experience in both vitreoretinal and lens surgery, he is particularly specialized in managing complex cases and serves as a referral surgeon for the management of surgical complications in lens surgery. He performs approximately 1,000 eye surgeries per year.

He is also subspecialty-trained in Medical Retina – diagnosis of various retinal diseases, including: • retinal vascular diseases • age-related macular degeneration • diabetic retinopathy • retinal vein occlusions

He is actively involved in retinal treatments using laser therapy and intravitreal injections.

Mag. Sebastijan Žuraj, MD, Ophthalmology Specialist, FEBO

Dr Sebastijan Žuraj, MSc, FEBO, is an ophthalmology specialist with more than twenty years of clinical experience in diagnosing and treating eye diseases. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, in 1996, began his career as a general practitioner, and in 2002 continued with ophthalmology residency at the University Eye Clinic in Ljubljana under Prof. Dr Mark Hawlina.

In 2007 he passed the European Board of Ophthalmology examination in Paris and became a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). Between 2007 and 2012 he gained experience in eye surgery and outpatient laser treatment of the retina at General Hospital Izola.

From 2012 to 2016 he worked in public and private specialist practice in Slovenia, and in 2014, after nostrification in Vienna, he opened his own self-pay specialist eye practice in Pliberk. In 2016 he completed a scientific master’s degree.

He has attended numerous professional courses, including internationally recognised PHACO Wet-Lab programmes in Vienna and Schruns, which form the foundation of surgical training in cataract surgery. Patients and colleagues value his expertise, systematic approach, dedicated care, and clear, empathetic communication. His work is characterised by quality, precision, and continuous professional development in modern ophthalmology.
